We visited our site. During this visit, we recorded measurements of bricks of each building (measuring 10 bricks and 10 mortar joints) in order to aid us when producing a site model. The site visit also enabled us, as a group, to gain an understanding as to which materials were typical to the area as well as seeing how graffiti present in the area was used as an artistic feature in Digbeth and around the Custard Factory- a creative hub for Birmingham, situated nearby. During this site visit I also noticed the lack of footfall and the low level of noise in the wider context of the site. To further this, despite there being a large volume of parked cars, the moving traffic was minimal.
Soundscapes & Smellscapes
I revisited the site and its surrounding area number of times following the initial site visit. Each time, I recorded measurements for illuminance, sound levels and smell types throughout the context and location. I was also able to look at the site in a different perspective with the intention to design a residential property- a very different perspective than just as a passer-by. Overall, the levels of sound and illuminance were quite consistent throughout the area. My recordings and experience have been detailed on the above 1:500 scale map.
